Stimulatation for what?

While I understand the right's opposition to the new presidential administration's economic stimulus bill, it's inevitably going to pass. When attacking the bill and deciding which parts of it to senselessly cut out, why is it that educational funding and broadband communication development were the first things to be sacrificed? This is getting a bit ridiculous. Even those who hold traditionally fiscally conservative political views would agree that it is highly beneficial to the country to put funding into scientific research, education, and utilities infrastructure. I suppose we'll be lagging far behind the rest of the developed world in communications for a bit longer. Of course, our Internet access is still adequate enough to enable our still-undereducated masses to leave asinine comments on asinine YouTube videos. I guess that's what matters.
